10-1-2012 Happily Ever After

As girls we are born wearing our hearts on our sleeves. We truly believe in happily ever after, and we honestly think that the word forever really means forever. We love fairy tales because to us we’re good enough to be the Princess who Prince Charming sweeps off her feet, and we believe him when he utters those three little words into our ear for the first time. It’s not because we’re pathetic and want nothing more than to be loved. It’s because when we looked into his eyes we saw our future unfold in them. We allowed him to slowly untie our heart from our sleeve before trusting him enough to hold it in his hands without crushing it. To us, he was more than our Prince Charming he was our forever. As women we don’t wear our hearts on our sleeves anymore. We lock it away so it can’t be broken. We look before we leap, we judge before we know, and the only people we trust are the ones we’ve known most of our lives because they don’t pretended to love us. We want to believe in forever, but we can’t because forever ended before it really got started. We want to see ourselves as that Princess again, but we don't because our fairy tale ended far from happily ever after. To us, Prince Charming ended up being a nightmare who we allowed to shatter more than just our hearts. However, there is one thing every Prince Charming needs to know about us Princesses. You may wound us. You may even make us cry, but you will never break us. Everyone knows that the evil villain pretending to be Prince Charming is the one who really pays in the end of every fairy tale. And eventually we Princesses find our real Prince, and realize that you were just a stepping stone to our happily ever after.
